When Photoshop was born…

I was living in Amsterdam. I met a model whose boyfreind worked for a company developing some of the very first and coolest image editing software. I met him and he took me up, up up into the dark rooms of a large building where they had huge servers and computers I didn’t understand yet and he showed me how images were being ‘processed’ by these giant machines. “It will take 43 hours” he said of one image, a copy of the Mona Lisa being rendered into a painting style image.

I was mesmerized. I said “If I take some photos of a model, can we create magic?”

“Yes!” he answered.

So I shot. 1993.
